University of Padua
GENERAL OVERVIEW
The LBQ is a self-report questionnaire that proposes new burnout indicators for those working in the care professions. Four scales provide an individual profile of the state of malaise to orient resources and preventive and support intervention for the personnel.
KEY FEATURES
- Four scales for the assessment of burnout
- Specific rules for different professional figures
- Speed of administration
- Extensive validation study
STRUCTURE
The LBQ is made up of four scales, each with three items with positive polarity and three with negative polarity:
- Psychophysical breakdown: is the sensation of feeling tired and under pressure, the depletion of physical and psychological resources.
- Deterioration of the relationship: when the relation of care with the user becomes alienated to the point of cynicism.
- Professional inefficiency: when professional problems become incomprehensible situations.
- Disillusion: what previously appeared a passion has become a mere routine devoid of meaning.
UTILIZATION
The LBQ enables the assessment, at the level of individual, operational unit or more complex organisation, of situations of malaise in which professional efficiency is threatened and there is a risk of burnout. The scores of the four scales make it possible to plan preventive strategies and targeted intervention. Being very short, the questionnaire can also be used in the assessment of specific operations or in the periodic monitoring of working organisations.
